What is the ECDL?

ECDL represents an international programme for education and knowledge testing in the context of Information Technologies – ICT. The programme consists of seven modules and after successfully completion of the exam from all programme units, you will get the European Computer Driving Licence – a license that is recognized in almost all EU countries and many other countries, members of ICDL programme (International Computer Driving Licence) – USA, Canada, Australia, Africa, and Asian countries.  ECDL programme allows students to document the level of acquired knowledge about information technology through a series of standardized tests. Tests are done in authorized centers and resolved in the presence of authorized ECDL examiner and under the control of the authorized ECDL examiner. ECDL program has already been developed into a global standard for computer literacy. So far there are more than 2.5 million trainees registered in over 15 000 test centres.

History

ECDL beginnings date from the mid-90's in Finland. The European Commission delivered task to standardize the processes of computer education and acquired knowledge straight to the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies – CEPIS. CEPIS concluded that Finnish programme is applicable programme and after finishing the adjustment, it was approved in Sweden 1996, and after that in other countries of European Union.
During the time, European Computer Driver Licence (ECDL) concept expanded beyond the borders of the European Community and the countries of North and South America, Australia, Asia and Africa where it is today known as the International Computer Drivers Licence (ICDL) Programme.

ECDL in the world?

Currently there are over 15,000 active test centers in 135 countries all over the world. In the UK there are over 4000, in Ireland 1100, in France 400, Austria 400, in Hungary 400, and 400 in Romania ...
So far, over 3 million people have deposited about 12 million tests.
The concept of ECDL is located in the European Commission, UNESCO/World Bank, the Governments of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Estonia, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy , Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and others, companies such as 3M, BMW, Coca Cola, Dunlop, Harrods, IBM, IKEA, Nokia, Opel, Philips, Renault, Volvo and others, as well as almost all banks and mobile networks in the world. Who needs the ECDL programme?

ECDL is a programme designed for those who want to use a computer and use it on the right way. To undertake the program there is no need for special previous knowledge in the context of information technology, or the knowledge in computer skills - because all necessary skills for taking tests to get through the courses and literature are already prepared and provided through the ECDL programme.
If you think that you already have a necessary knowledge and you wish internationally recognized license - just contact us and sign up for taking the tests, or if you already have some level of knowledge and experience, and you want to take the training in those areas where you are lack of the background, you can also sign up for training and taking the tests!
What are the advantages compared to other programs?

The advantage of ECDL programme compared to similar programmes primarily is in the fact that it is not bound to any type of computer or specific operating system and is applicable to all major computer platforms. Also, the certificate is recognized in many countries, and preparatory courses are conducted by a special curriculum which is the same in all countries. Also, the questions in the exam are identical in all countries.

What the ECDL license represents to a candidate?

Almost every job requires computer skills, and employers often look for evidence of that knowledge. With internationally recognized ECDL license diploma, you are able to prove your future employer that you are able to use the computers. Featuring the internationally recognized ECDL license your future (even abroad) career will not be charged by proving knowledge of computers, also with the painstaking process of translating diploma validation.
You will be able to understand the basic principles of working with computers, and therefore you will be able to receive easier and faster new knowledge from ICT. This is especially important considering the rapid development of ICT field, frequent changes and improvements that give manufacturers of computer equipment and programs.
You will possess the practical knowledge that will enable faster and more efficient work on the computer, both at work and home. You will be able to realize the importance of inclusion in modern information era and the whole world of modern communications (Internet, e-mail, etc.).
What constitutes a test?

ECDL / ICDL is a test of practical skills and competencies and it consists of seven separate modules covering computer theory and practice. Module 1 is a theoretical test of computing knowledge at general level and Modules 2-7 are practical skills Tests, and it goes as follows:
